Editing a task

There are several ways to change a task, and they all do the same thing underneath.

By voice

Speak an update from anywhere (see Voice commands above). One command can change several fields. You confirm before it saves.

In the manual editor

You can open the full editor from a task's detail view (the Edit option), or with the keyboard button next to the mic when creating from scratch. The editor exposes every field:

  • Title.
  • Type (To-do or Waiting-for).
  • Status (locked when the task has active blockers).
  • Important.
  • Off-peak.
  • Intense.
  • Deadline (hidden when off-peak is on).
  • Recurrence (hidden when off-peak is on).
  • Project.
  • Contacts (search and pick several; you can create a new contact right here).
  • Blockers (search and add other tasks).
  • Read-only created and last-updated times.
  • Save and Cancel.

You mark a task Done or Cancelled from the editor using the Status control above (Done is locked while there are active blockers). One-tap actions like Continue live in the task's detail view, not the editor. There is no hard delete: to retire a task you set its status to Cancelled, which moves it to Completed.

The same editor is used to create new tasks and to edit existing ones.

In the detail view

Tapping or clicking a task opens a readable view with action buttons: Mark as Done, Continue, and Edit, plus a mic for voice updates. If the task is part of a thread, you can expand its previous phases here.

From the card

You can also act directly on a card: click the star to mark it important (desktop), use the down-arrow to send it to the bottom (desktop), drag it across buckets to reschedule (desktop), or use the swipe gestures (mobile).

A note on off-peak while editing

In any editor, turning off-peak on hides the deadline and recurrence but keeps your values, so turning it back off brings them back. They are only cleared when you save. In the other direction, setting a deadline always turns off-peak off, because the two can never coexist.
